KADDI Rotation Overview – Structured Supervised Practice for RDN Preparation
The Keith & Associates Distance Dietetic Internship (KADDI) is structured to provide a comprehensive supervised practice experience across all required domains, ensuring interns meet ACEND competencies and are fully prepared to sit for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) exam.

Each intern follows a guided series of rotations, with extensive support, orientation, and pre-assigned coursework that enhances their learning and clinical readiness.

Pre-Orientation: KADDI Boot Camp (76 Hours)
Before beginning rotations, interns complete a rigorous 76-hour self-directed module series covering foundational topics such as:

Public policy in nutrition

Sustainability and productivity

Renal nutrition education

Evidence-based case studies
These assignments prepare interns to engage in critical thinking and meet CRDNs early in the program.

Orientation: "Livin’ on Tulsa Time" (4 Days)
A dynamic four-day training designed to equip interns with essential professional, clinical, and communication skills.

Sunday: Optional ranch-to-table tour with Oklahoma Beef Council and animal science professionals

Monday: HIPAA, SBAR & AIDET training, diversity & inclusion, professional development
-
Tuesday: Clinical labs—NG tube placement, enteral feeding pumps, diabetes medication administration, blood pressure checks, and nutrition supplement sampling (Nestlé, Abbott, Real Foods)

Wednesday: Business & communication workshop with private practice RDNs

Thursday: RDN exam preparation kickoff and alumni presentations

Clinical Rotation – 392 Hours
Interns complete clinical rotations in settings such as hospitals, long-term care, or specialty practices. Conditions covered:

Malnutrition, Cancer, Obesity
-
Endocrine, Cardiovascular, GI, and Renal diseases
Assignments include:

Self and preceptor evaluations
-
A research-based topic report on a current or emerging clinical issue

40 hours of preparatory coursework prior to rotation start

Foodservice Rotation – 224 Hours
Interns gain experience across all stages of the foodservice cycle:

Procurement, receiving, storage, prep, and service

Assignments include employee training and menu development

Focus on operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability

Business & Entrepreneurship Rotation – 160 Hours
Designed to foster management and leadership skills applicable across dietetics. Interns may:

Collaborate with RDNs and entrepreneurs

Create social media content
-
Develop business proposals or projects
​
Community Rotation – 128 Hours
Interns apply the nutrition care process with diverse populations:

Adults, infants, children, pregnant/lactating individuals
-
Assignments include educational content creation and counseling
-
Emphasis on cultural competence and lifecycle nutrition

Graduation & Verification Statement Requirements
To successfully graduate and receive a verification statement, interns must:
-
Complete 1,000+ total hours, including at least 700 supervised on-site hours
-
Finish a graduate degree (if required) before completion

Submit all evaluations and assignments
-
Demonstrate competency in all ACEND CRDNs
-
Pass the KADDI Final Exam or attempt it up to three times
-
Fulfill all financial obligations

Graduation timelines:

Internship-Only: 8.5 months (FT) or 14 months (PT)
-
MSDI (Alabama): 18 months
-
MSDI (UCA): 18–24 months depending on track

SCHEDULE OVERVIEW
Pre-orientation – KADDI Boot Camp
This is a vigorous, 76-hour rotation of case study exercises that interns must complete prior to orientation. The assignments & activities during pre-orientation cover several ACEND required competencies. Some of the assignments you will be doing include public policy, productivity & sustainability, or renal education.
Orientation - "Livin' on Tulsa Time"
This is a four-day training to prepare you for your rotation sites. Sunday = Optional Ranch to Table tour event sponsored by the Oklahoma Beef Council. Students take a chartered bus to an Oklahoma ranch. You will get a tour of the ranch by the Armitage family. After this, you will be able to visit with a team of experts from Oklahoma State University (animal scientists, veterinarian, etc.). The day ends with a steak dinner! Monday =  professional development, SBAR & AIDET communication techniques, HIPPA training, Diversity & Inclusion, and more. Tuesday = clinical training including clinical skills training (NG tube placement, Cortrak training & placement, enteral feeding pump hands-on training for adult & pediatric care (learn how to set a pump rate & more), diabetes skills training (blood glucose checks, insulin injection practice into sponge, CGMs, diabetes medication review and use of commonly used medications and insulins), swallow screening & thickening liquids & testing measure using IDDSI guidelines, blood pressure checks, B12 IM injections, and more.  You will also be able to visit with representatives & and sample nutrition supplements with Abbott, Nestle, Nutricia, Oklahoma Beef Council, and Real Foods.  Wednesday = business workshop and communication strategies training by two private practice RDNs from Dallas, Texas. Thursday = kick-off to RDN exam prep training (continues throughout internship) and hear from preceptors & KADDI alumni!
Clinical Rotation – 392 Hours
During your clinical rotation, you will be performing the nutrition care process using evidence-based practice. Required conditions to practice during your clinical rotation include: ​ Cancer Malnutrition Overweight/obesity Endocrine Disorders Renal Disease Cardiovascular Disease Gastrointestinal Disease ​ As a KADDI intern, you will have 40 hours of pre-rotation assignments to prepare you for the clinical rotation. These assignments will allow you the opportunity to improve your MNT knowledge & critical thinking skills to be well-prepared for your rotation. ​ During the clinical rotation, assignments will include self-evaluations & preceptor evaluations to assess your strengths and areas to improve your overall clinical skills. Another assignment our interns enjoy doing is the nutrition topic study report. This is a topic decided between the preceptor and intern on a nutrition topic issue that is new or controversial. The intern does further research and study about the topic to improve knowledge & practice for the intern, preceptor, and facility.
Foodservice Rotation – 224 Hours
This rotation will provide you with hands-on experience in all parts of a foodservice system. You will complete assignments to gain an application of procurement, receiving, storage, preparation and service. Some of the assignments you will complete during this rotation include employee training, theme meal or menu development.
Business & Entrepreneurship Rotation – 160 Hours
In this rotation, interns will develop leadership and management skills in a variety of settings. These skills you will be able to use in all areas of dietetic practice as you begin your career. You will work with nutrition or other business professionals to develop social media and other business-related projects.
Community Rotation – 128 Hours
During the community rotation, dietetic interns will be able to practice the nutrition care process with populations of diverse cultures and across the life cycle including: ​ Adults Infants Children Pregnant/lactating women ​ Some of the assignments you will complete during this rotation include developing client education material or conducting a nutrition education and counseling session.
Program Completion and Verification Statement
In order to graduate and receive a verification statement, interns must: Complete a minimum of 1000 total hours with a minimum of 700 hours being on-site supervised practice (including PAL credit if any) Complete a graduate degree within the time allotted for the internship track chosen by the student. Submit to KADDI an official transcript with the graduate degree and date awarded posted on it​ Those who enter with a graduate degree or complete a graduate degree prior to completion of program are expected to complete the program within 8.5 months (full-time) or 14 months (part-time). ​ MSDI students are expected to complete the University of Alabama combined program within 18 month MSDI students are expected to complete the University of Central Arkansas combined program within 18 months (full-time) or 24 months (part-time) Finish all assignments in the curriculum and submit preceptor evaluations Must be completed before leaving your rotation site​ Meet each ACEND competency for Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (CRDNs) one or more times Pass the final exam (or have attempted it three times) Fulfilled all financial obligations
